Burlington Adopts Morgan Road Elementary
Thursday, October 17, 2019
Last school year, Morgan Road Elementary teachers and staff worked with Principal Brett Woodcock to establish values that would support the school’s vision, shape its culture, and reflect on what it values the most. When school started in September, the school introduced its four core values – achievement, empathy, opportunity and safety.
While all are of equal importance, opportunity is something that comes up time and time again. In fact ask any teacher and they will share their classroom “wish list” if the funds were available to make those opportunities a reality for their students.
Sometimes, however, wishes do come true. Earlier this month, the Burlington store on Route 31 reached out to Woodcock and told him the store would like to adopt the school.
Representatives from Burlington, which partners with the Adopt a Classroom program, recently presented Woodcock and members of the MRE community with a check for $1,000. The grant money can be used to purchase school supplies to help enhance opportunities for students.
While Woodcock said they are still trying to determine what they will purchase with the grant money, he did say he would like to select items that will enrich the curriculum already offered at MRE.
The Adopt a Classroom program was established to help assist teachers and advance “equity in education by powering today’s classrooms to prepare tomorrow’s graduates.” To accomplish this, Adopt a Classroom partners with companies and organizations across the country to help teachers purchase those extra supplies for their classrooms.
